Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the disease economic risk of middle-aged and elderly patients with chronic diseases in rural areas of Xinjiang, and to provide theoretical basis for the prevention and control of chronic diseases.METHODS A total of 1 490 middle-aged and elderly chronic disease patients in 957 families in rural areas of Xinjiang were studied.Relative risk degree,cor-rected relative risk degree and catastrophic health expenditure were used as indicators to measure the economic risk brought by chronic disease to patients and their families.RESULTS The prevalence rate of chronic diseases was 39.32%in rural areas of Xinjiang.Male,60~69 years old, married group, middle school and above education level had strong economic risk tolerance.Under the definition standard of 40.00%,the incidence of catastrophic health expenditure of chronic diseases among middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas of Xinjiang was 13.70%.Small family size(<3 persons),low-income families, poor access to medical services, large number of chronic disease cases in the family(5 cases or more),and poor self-rated health status were the influential factors for the occurrence of CHE in middle-aged and elderly families with chronic diseases in rural areas of Xinjiang(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The incidence of catastrophic health expenditure is low in rural areas of Xinjiang, but the economic risk of disease is higher in the vulnerable groups as a whole.More comprehensive and effective reform strategies are needed to enhance the ability to resist the economic risk of disease.
