Analysis of the Survey Results on the Health Literacy Status of Residents in Chenghua District of Chengdu in 2023

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the current situation of health literacy among residents in Chenghua District of Chengdu,and provide a scientific basis for formulating health policies and carrying out targeted health intervention activities.METHODS In 2023,using a combination of stratified multi-stage,Probability Proportional to Size,and cluster sampling methods to select 800 permanent residents aged 15~69 from Chenghua District for a questionnaire survey.RESULTS In 2023,the overall level of health literacy among residents in Chenghua District of Chengdu was 34.63%.Among different age groups,the health literacy level of residents aged 35~44 was the highest(42.68%),and that of residents aged 55~64 was the lowest(26.49%).Regarding the health literacy levels of residents with different educational backgrounds,the level of those with a bachelor's degree or above was the highest(40.78%),and that of those with less than junior high school education was the lowest(30.11%).In terms of the health literacy levels in three aspects,the level of basic knowledge and concepts was relatively high(44.25%),while the level of health skills was relatively low(33.75%).Among the health literacy levels of six categories of health issues,the level of scientific health view was the highest(68.63%),while the levels of safety and first aid literacy,and health information literacy were in the middle(60.88%,44.63%),and the levels of basic medical literacy,chronic disease prevention and control literacy,and infectious disease prevention and control literacy were relatively low(35.38%,34.50%,33.13%).CONCLUSION The overall health literacy level of residents in Chenghua District of Chengdu is relatively good,but there are differences among people of different ages and educational levels.There are significant differences in health literacy levels of the three aspects and six categories of issues,and there is a situation of separation between knowledge and action.Targeted health intervention measures should be carried out according to the characteristics of different groups of people,and comprehensive intervention activities aiming at improving the formation of healthy behaviors should be explored to promote the unification of residents'knowledge,attitude,and practice.
