Epidemiological Analysis on Clustering Epidemics of Varicella in Shapingba District of Chongqing from 2014 to 2023

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemic characteristics in Shapingba District of Chongqing from 2014 to 2023,and provide a basis for further prevention and control of varicella in these areas.METHODS Collect monitoring and disposal data on varicella clusters in Shapingba District from 2014 to 2023,and use descriptive epidemiological methods to analyze the epidemic characteristics of varicella clusters.RESULTS From 2014 to 2023,a total of 11 548 cases of varicella were reported in Shapingba District,including 4 522 cases(39.16％)among preschool children.There were 412 outbreaks of varicella,accounting for 56.35％of the total number of cases among preschool children.The median number of casesper outbreak was 4,and the median duration of the outbreak was 19 days.The outbreak of varicella is mainly concentrated in primary schools(184 cases,44.66％),with a bimodal distribution(high incidence periods from April to June and October to December),and mainly in urban areas(336 cases,81.36％).There were statistically significant differences in the number and duration of epidemic cases in different school stages(P＜0.01).The spread of the epidemic within the class,grade,and school was 170(41.17％),56(13.56％),and 187(45.28％),respectively.There was a statistically significant difference in the spread range among different school stages(P＜0.01).The spread of the epidemic in the first,second,and third generations and above was 171(41.40％),117(28.33％),and 125(30.27％),respectively.CONCLUSION The outbreak of varicella in Shapingba District of Chongqing is characterized by high incidence in spring,autumn,and urban areas.Schools(kindergartens)are high-risk places,and there are differences in the number,duration,and spread of cases among different school stages.Targeted prevention and control measures should be taken to cope with the situation.
