Epidemiological Characteristics of Varicella in Quanzhou from 2008 to 2023

Abstract：OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of varicella in Quanzhou and provide a scientific basis for the formulation of varicella prevention and control strategies.METHODS The data of varicella cases in Quanzhou city from 2008 to 2023 were collected and analyzed.RESULTS In Quanzhou,a total of 33 843 cases with varicella were reported from 2008 to 2023.With an average annual reported incidence rate of 25.05/105,there were 3 dead patients,with a case fatality rate of 0.01%.There were 18 reported outbreaks of varicella as public health emergencies,with an exposed population morbidity rate of 1.87%.The top three regions with annual average incidence rates were Nanan,Licheng District,and Fengze District,the average annual incidence rate was 42.48/105,35.83/105 and 34.44/105,respectively.Compared with female,the incidence was higher in male.The incidence showed clear seasonality,with peaks in winter and spring;The cases were mainly concentrated in the age group of 0～19 years(76.26%),mainly including students,scattered children and preschool children(75.65%).CONCLUSION The overall trend of the incidence of varicella in Quanzhou from 2008 to 2023 is upward.Comprehensive prevention and control measures for varicella should be taken,including increasing the vaccination rate for varicella,timely and standardized management of varicella epidemic,strengthening health education and promotion,and standardizing diagnosis and treatment.
