Investigation on Influencing Factors of Health Literacy and Health Literacy Regarding Infectious Disease Prevention of Rural Residents in Wuhan

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the health literacy and infectious disease prevention literacy of rural residents in Wuhan and to analyze its influencing factors,to provide basis for health education and health management in Wuhan.METHODS A stratified multi-stage proportional sampling method was used to investigate the rural residents in Wuhan.Single factor chi-square and multifactor logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of health literacy and health literacy regarding infectious disease prevention.RESULTS The level of health literacy of residents was 12.2%,The level of health literacy regarding infectious disease prevention was 22.3%.Education level and family income are the main influencing factors.The results of multivariate logistic analysis showed that compared with illiterate people OR those with little literacy,those with high school/vocational high school/secondary school education(OR=2.982),college/bachelor degree or above(OR=5.873)had higher overall health literacy level.The health literacy level of infectious diseases was higher in high school/vocational high school/technical secondary education(OR=2.838),college/undergraduate and above(OR=3.599).With the increase of household annual income,the overall health literacy rate of residents also increases.Compared with residents whose annual household income is less than 50 000 CYD,residents with annual household income of 50 000 to 100 000 CYD(OR=1 582)and>100 000 CYD(OR=1 624)have higher rates of overall health literacy.CONCLUSION The health literacy of rural residents in Wuhan are relatively low,and the health literacy should be improved according to the different characteristics of the residents.According to the different characteristics of rural residents,the intervention measures of health education and publicity should be carried out to effectively improve the healthy literacy level of rural reidents in Wuhan.
