Epidemiological and Etiological Characteristics of Hand-foot-mouth Disease in Wuqing District of Tianjin from 2014 to 2023

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyse the characteristics of epidemiology and changes of the pathogen spectrum of hand-foot-mouth disease(HFMD)to provide scientific evidence in prevention and control of HFMD.METHODS Descriptive epidemiological research methods was conducted to analyse the distribution characteristics and the changes of pathogen spectrum of HFMD cases in Wuqing District from 2014 to 2023.RESULTS 8 642 cases of HFMD were reported from 2014 to 2023.The average annual incidence was 75.37/105,The highest incidence was 153.23/105 in 2018 and the lowest was 6.83/105 in 2022.The incidence showed a decreasing trend.The incidence began to rise in May and reached its peak in July,but the peak of 2023 delayed.A total of 5 023 male cases and 3 619 female cases were reported with an annual average incidence of 83.41/105 and 66.48/105 respectively.The ratio of male to female was 1.39∶1.There was no significant difference in the incidence between male and female.Scattered children accounted for 55.39%of the total cases,followed by daycare children(25.95%)and students(12.47%).The cases were reported in all 29 towns and streets in the district,the top 5 areas were Dongpuwa,Xiazhuzhuang,Shangmatai,Yangcun,and Chagugang with incedience of 265.48/105,205.64/105,106.95/105,105.80/105,101.47/105,respectively.A total of 518 positive specimens were collected,including 48 cases of EV71,141 cases of CoxA16,329 cases of other Enteroviruses.CONCLUSION The incidence of HFMD showed a downward trend in Wuqing District from 2014 to 2023.The peak of incidence occurred in July every year,but it delayed to September in 2023.It should pay attention to this change.Scattered children were the main patient population,but the proportion of daycare children and students is increasing gradually.The incidence in suburban areas was higher than that in central urban areas,and that in central urban areas was higher than that in rural areas.The proportion of EV71 and CoxA16 was gradually decreased,while the proportion of other Enteroviruses was gradually increased.
