Abstract:OBJECTIVE To develop a maternal and infant health literacy(MIHL)questionnaire suitable for pregnant and postpartum women in rural areas and apply it in Lingshan County of Guangxi,so as to provide an assessment tool and scientific basis for carrying out targeted maternal and child health care in rural areas of Guangxi and even wider rural areas of China.METHODS The framework system of MIHL was established through literature review and expert discussion, and the preliminary items list was determined.Delphi method was used to determine the core items of the questionnaire. From October 2022 to September 2023,the questionnaire was applied to 1 743 pregnant women in Lingshan County Maternal and Child Health Hospital for evaluation, and basic information of pregnant and postpartum women was collected at the same time.Cronbach's α coefficient and confirmatory factor analysis were used to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. The chi-square test was utilized to compare the single factor of MIHL levels among various groups, and then multiple Logistic regression was used to identify the influencing factors of MIHL.RESULTS The questionnaire contained 24 items, and the Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.719.Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fitted well. The application results showed that the median score of MIHL of pregnant and postpartum women in Lingshan County was 46,and the rate was 27.25%.Multivariate analysis showed that pregnancy and postpartum stages, parity, education level, relationship with spouse and relationship with parents were the significant influencing factors of MIHL.CONCLUSION The MIHL questionnaire developed in this study has good reliability and validity in rural pregnant and postpartum women. The level of MIHL in Lingshan County is at a low level. Therefore,it is imperative to strengthen the accuracy and effectiveness of health education, and focus on pregnant women who are primiparas, have a low education level, and exhibit general relationships with their parents and spouses.
