Abstract:OBJECTIVE To Explore dental status and its association with frailty and cognitive impairment in community-dwelling older adults in Shanghai.METHODS 240 cases of the elderly population examined in the community of Shanghai were selected for analysis, and the selected time period was from October 2019 to October 2023,and were divided into 119 cases in the cognitive function abnormal group and 121 cases in the cognitive function normal group according to the score of the Brief Mental Status Examination(MMSE),and into 102 cases in the healthy group,103 cases in the pre-decline group, and 35 cases in the debilitated group according to the Fried Debilitating Body Phenotypes Scale. It observed the number of teeth and the wearing of dentures in the elderly with different cognitive functions and different frailty states, and analyzed the relationship between the denture status and frailty and cognitive function in the elderly.RESULTS There was no significant difference in the proportion of complete dentition, defect dentition and absence dentition among the elderly people of different genders and ages(P>0.05).Compared with the normal cognitive function group, the number of dentures with more than 21 teeth in the abnormal cognitive function group was significantly reduced.Compared with the healthy group, the number of teeth>21 in the preasthenic and asthenic groups was significantly reduced.Compared with the healthy group, the scores of the preasthenic group and the asthenic group were significantly reduced.Multivariate regression analysis showed that a decrease in tooth number was associated with a significantly increased risk of frailty and cognitive impairment(β=-0.823,P<0.05).CONCLUSION The dental status of elderly people in the Shanghai community has a certain influence on both debility and cognitive impairment, and dental defects can promote the development of debility and cognitive impairment, and there is a positive correlation between debility and cognitive impairment.
