Epidemic Status and Related Factors of Chronic Diseases among Adult Residents in Liangzhou District of Wuwei

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the prevalence of chronic diseases and related factors among adult residents in Liang-zhou district.METHODS A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling survey was conducted in 4 communities in Liangzhou district,a to-tal of 9 004 adults in 8 townships were investigated for chronic diseases and their risk factors.RESULTS The prevalence rates of hy-pertension,diabetes and hyperlipidemia were 25.10%,7.94%and 3.47%respectively in Liangzhou District.The prevalence rate of hypertension in rural residents was higher than that in urban residents(P<0.05),and the prevalence rate of hypertension and diabe-tes mellitus in urban male residents was higher than that in urban female residents(P<0.05).The prevalence rates of hypertension and diabetes mellitus in men and women aged 60 years and over were much higher than those aged 18~34 years and 35~59 years.The prevalence rate of hyperlipemia in urban residents was higher than that in rural residents(P<0.05).The prevalence rate of hy-perlipemia in females was slightly higher than that in males,except for those over 60 years old.In terms of BMI distribution,about 47.87%of Liangzhou District adults were overweight or obese,with overweight and obesity accounting for 37.14%and 10.73%re-spectively.The overweight and obesity rates of rural residents were higher than those of urban residents,and the overweight and obe-sity rates of male were higher than those of female in all age groups.CONCLUSION It suggested that the problem of abdominal obesi-ty in Liangzhou District is worthy of attention,especially in rural,young and middle-aged men.
