The Investigation and Analysis on Hyperuricemia Related Knowledge among the Elderly in Community

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the knowledge of hyperuricemia among the elderly in community, in order to provide evidence for hyperuricemia related knowledge education. METHODS A total of 1 275 older adults over 60 years old selected by convenient sampling were investigated using the Hyperuricemia Related Knowledge Questionnaire. RESULTS The total score of hyperuricemia related knowledge was (5.07±6.06). The scoring percentage was 18.77%. The scores of the 5 dimensions from high to low were diet, related disease, exercising, high risk factors and therapy. The correct rate of each knowledge item was less than 50%. The scores of knowledge of hyperuricemia in the elderly with different age, different education level, different monthly income, whether it had the family history of hyperuricemia or not were different significantly (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The knowledge of hyperuricemia of the elderly in the community were poor, especially those who were older, with lower education, and lower average monthly income. It was recommended that community health care workers should strengthen the elderly's knowledge about hyperuricemia in the community by health education, in order to achieve the purpose of preventing elderly hyperuricemia.
