Abstract:Objective To explore and implement an outcome-based education(OBE)-oriented collegiate training system for outstanding surgical residents,so as to enhance their clinical competence, professional ethics, and comprehensive abilities, and to optimize the standardized residency training model. Methods Based on the college of basic surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University,a competency-based training system was established. The system featured comprehensive, progressive, integrative, and modular course designs combined with a diversified assessment system to evaluate residents'clinical skills, procedural techniques, interpersonal communication, professional ethics, and emergency response capabilities. Results Surgical residents trained under this system demonstrated significant improvements in clinical skills, comprehensive decision-making abilities, and professional qualities. The pass rate of practical skills assessment in Guangdong Provincial Residency Final Examination reached 100%,while the first-attempt pass rate for the theoretical exam showed a steady upward trend.Overall performance ranked among the top in the province. Conclusion The collegiate training model based on OBE can effectively improve the quality of surgical residency training and enhance clinical competence. It has strong potential for broader implementation and provides an innovative approach to standardized residency training in China.
