Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of an experiential life education program intervention on suicide risk, meaning in life, and life attitudes among medical postgraduate students(hereinafter referred to as postgraduate students). Methods A pre-post comparison design was employed.Ninety-two postgraduate students who enrolled in a"Special Topics in Psychology"course formed the observation group and received an 8-hour experiential life education program intervention.Eighty-eight postgraduate students who enrolled in a"Psychological Assessment and Psychotherapy"course served as the control group. The Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised(SBQ-R),the Purpose in Life Test(PIL),and the Life Attitude Scale(LAS)were administered to both groups for pre-and post-intervention assessments. Results Following the intervention, the observation group demonstrated a significant reduction in suicide risk and significant improvements in meaning in life and life attitudes, while the control group showed no significant changes in these measures. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed the decrease in suicide risk of the observation group.Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney U test revealed that post-intervention suicide risk of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group.Repeated measures ANOVA indicated significant interaction effect between time and group for both meaning in life and life attitudes. Conclusion The experiential life education program can effectively reduce suicide risk, and enhance meaning in life and positive life attitudes among postgraduate students, suggesting its value for wider implementation in postgraduate training.
