Abstract:Objective To explore the impact of emergency laboratory training on the competency development of resident physicians in the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 44 resident physicians enrolled in the standardized residency training program at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University from 2014 to 2020.The participants were divided into two groups:the observation group(2014 and 2015 cohorts)underwent emergency laboratory rotation, while the control group(2016-2020 cohorts)did not.Competency assessments, including medical theoretical knowledge, basic clinical laboratory skills,self-evaluations of competency, and supervisor evaluations, were compared between the two groups before and after training. Results Before training, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in medical theoretical knowledge, basic clinical laboratory skills,self-assessed competency,or supervisor evaluations(all P>0.05).After training, the observation group demonstrated significantly higher scores in basic clinical laboratory skills compared with the control group.Additionally, the observation group scored higher in self-assessed competency domains, including medical professionalism, communication skills, and teamwork ability, and supervisor evaluations of competency were also significantly higher for the observation group(all P<0.05).Conclusion Emergency laboratory training can significantly improve resident physicians'basic clinical laboratory skills, medical professionalism, communication abilities, and teamwork competency.
