Investigation on needs and satisfaction of standardized training residents in outpatient teaching

Abstract:Objective To investigate the needs of standardized training residents for outpatient teaching and their satisfaction with teaching clinic,so as to explore the methods to improve the outpatient teaching.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among residents from the residency training base in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine,to investigate the current situation and needs of residents participating in outpatient teaching.From October 2022 to December 2023,a survey was conducted after each teaching clinic session to assess the satisfaction of residents with the teaching clinic.Results A total of 103 residents participated in the questionnaire survey,only 51.46%of them had participated in outpatient teaching,and most of them were partly involved in clinical practice.68.75%of them preferred teaching outpatient clinic to daily outpatient teaching.Most residents wanted to attend outpatient teaching once a week.Only 9.71%of the residents thought that they had the ability of independent outpatient consultation.Residents most wanted to be trained in differential diagnostic thinking in outpatient teaching,59.22%of the residents wanted to consult patients independently,and 88.35%of the residents wanted the teachers to play a guiding role.From October 2022 to December 2023,a total of 116 teaching clinics were conducted in our hospital,and 258 satisfaction questionnaires were collected from residents.More than 90.00%of the residents were very satisfied with the teaching clinic,and believed that the teaching clinic could help improve their ability of doctor-patient communication,clinical thinking and decision-making.Conclusions The standardized training residents do not have enough outpatient practice,and they prefer the opportunity of independent outpatient consultation.Teaching clinic is a teaching model worthy of promotion,but there is still a long way to go for the reform of ambulatory care education.
