Abstract:Residents are currently in a period where they need to quickly and efficiently absorb and accumulate medical knowledge.Due to the uncertainty in clinical work environment and scheduling, relying solely on traditional classroom teaching methods to guide clinical learning is unable to meet the needs of residency training. In this scenario, assisting them in enhancing their self-directed learning abilities is essential to help them updating medical knowledge timely and efficiently while balancing clinical responsibilities, thus truly achieving lifelong learning. This article provides a review of the factors that influence the self-directed learning abilities and efficiency of resident physicians,as mentioned in previous literature, including aspects related to the resident physicians themselves, the residency training institutions, and teaching methods. It also combines the reviewed content to propose some rational suggestions for clinical training institutions in terms of curriculum arrangement, faculty training, and institutional management. The aim is to assist resident physicians in enhancing their self-directed learning abilities and clinical learning efficiency by optimizing clinical teaching management models, updating teaching methods, and improving the quality of clinical education.
