Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness of the ward vertical cooperation group model in improving the quality of standardized residency training in the Department of Gastroenterology. Methods A retrospective study was conducted in 218 resident physicians who underwent residency training in the Department of Gastroenterology at the First Affiliated Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine, from March 2023 to February 2024.The resident physicians were stratified by their training years and then randomly assigned to different hospital sites for rotation. They were divided into the observation group(vertical cooperation group)and the control group(horizontal residency training model). The outcomes measured included the end-of-rotation assessment scores, satisfaction of resident physicians, and patient satisfaction in the wards. Results Both groups of resident physicians had a high level of acceptance of the teaching models. There was no significant difference in the theoretical examination scores between the observation group and the control group(P>0.05).However,the observation group scored higher in clinical thinking assessment compared with the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The feedback survey results from discharged patients showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups in overall patient satisfaction as well as in the dimensions of healthcare provider responsiveness and physician communication(P>0.05).Conclusion Under the close supervision of attending physicians, the ward vertical cooperation group model can effectively enhance the clinical thinking skills of residents while maintaining the safety of the wards and increasing the clinical decision-making autonomy of residents.
