Abstract:Objective According to the demand for ophthalmic residents in our country, the curriculum construction of ophthalmology residency training based on entrustable professional activities(EPAs)was studied for the first time by referring to the curriculum construction of other disciplines at home and abroad. Methods The standardized training of ophthalmic residents based on EPAs was discussed from the aspects of curriculum construction, curriculum implementation and curriculum evaluation.A total of 32 residents from September 2020 to June 2024 in the Ophthalmology Specialty Base of Subei People's Hospital Affiliated to Yangzhou University were selected and divided into EPAs group and control group. After the training, the theory and practice of the two groups were evaluated.Based on the EPAs,the EPAs group was evaluated by self-evaluation and other-evaluation,and the satisfaction of residents and guiding doctors was investigated. Results A total of 37 items were included in the curriculum. The results of the curriculum evaluation showed that the theoretical and practical scores of the second-year and third-year residents of the EPAs group were better than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).There were significant differences in pterygium excision, amniotic membrane transplantation and bad news telling between self-assessment and other-assessment in EPAs group(all P<0.05).Sixteen residents(100%)and 30 supervising physicians(100%)who participated in the course were satisfied with the EPAs-based teaching model. Conclusion The EPAs-based ophthalmology residency program will help improve the quality of ophthalmology residency education and ophthalmology residency core competency.
