Effect of clinical pathway teaching method on standardized training for residents in spine surgery

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of clinical pathway teaching method on standardized training for residents in spinal surgery.Methods A total of 51 residents who received standardized residency training in Spine Surgery Department in the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University were randomly divided into two groups,with 31 residents in observation group and 30 residents in control group.The observation group conducted clinical pathway teaching method,and the control group adopted traditional teaching method.At the end of standardized training in spine surgery,the teaching effect on the residents was assessed by the graduation examination and questionnaire survey.Results The scores of the theoretical test and clinical practice test of the residents in the observation group were(86.54±4.82)and(91.77±3.50)respectively,better than those of the residents in the control group[(83.60±6.07)and(88.67±4.37),respectively],with statistical significance(P<0.05).The results of the questionnaire survey showed that the residents in the observation group were significantly more satisfied with the teaching method,clinical thinking ability and problem-solving ability than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion In the process of standardized training in spine surgery,the clinical pathway teaching method can effectively improve the clinical teaching performance of the residents,and improve the clinical thinking and problem-solving ability.
