Application of a score-based performance evaluation system in the teachers management of standardized residency training in surgery

Abstract：Objective By establishing a score-based performance evaluation system,we aimed to quantitatively evaluate the teaching work and teaching quality,thereby motivating teachers in standardized training bases for resident physicians,mobilizing their enthusiasm,and improving their teaching skills.Methods Based on comprehensive and multi-dimensional evaluations,a Surgical Professional Base Teaching Performance Score Evaluation Form was formulated.The teaching work and effectiveness of teachers were quantified through multi-dimensional evaluations.The monthly teaching performance rewards for teachers were distributed based on the score results,and the scores were also linked to teacher evaluations,promotions in professional titles,and management within the teacher database.Statistical analysis was conducted on the progress of teacher teaching activities and student evaluations before and after the implementation of the plan.Results After the implementation,the total number of annual teaching activities in 2023 reached 694,with an increase of nearly 100 compared with 2022.Based on a questionnaire survey,resident physicians widely recognized and highly appreciated the quality of teaching activities at the surgical specialty base.We successfully calculated the teaching performance of the faculty according to the assessment form.The annual faculty rating was significantly improved(P<0.01).Conclusion The Teaching Performance Score Evaluation Form for Surgical Professional Bases can quantify the teaching work of teachers,improve their enthusiasm for teaching work,and improve the satisfaction of resident physicians.It provides a basis for the distribution of teacher performance allowances.The supervising physician and the base management department can find the deficiency of teaching and actively adjust it.Score-based performance evaluation system can improve the satisfaction of residents,and achieve the implementation of the Resident Training Base Teachers'teaching performance incentives.
