Implementation of the flipped classroom hybrid teaching based on SPOC in obstetrics and gynecology standardized residency training

Abstract：Objective To explore the application of the flipped classroom hybrid teaching model based on small private online course(SPOC)concept in the standardized residency training of obstetrics and gynecology.Methods A total of 49 obstetrics and gynecology residents from the 2022 class who practiced at Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center,Guangzhou Medical University were enrolled in the study.They were divided into an observation group(n=24)and a control group(n=25).The observation group adopted a hybrid teaching model combining the SPOC-based flipped classroom with case and team based learning,whereas the control group accepted the traditional teaching model.Exam performances before and after the training were compared between the two groups,and the satisfaction survey post training was conducted for the observation group.Results There was no statistically significant difference in the assessment of fetal heart rate monitoring interpretation between the two groups before the training(P>0.05).Covariance analysis displayed the scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group after the training(P<0.001).The satisfaction survey for the observation group showed that residents were highly satisfied,believing that it could stimulate learning interest,improve theoretical knowledge mastery,exert subjective initiative and improve performance,also it might help to enhance clinical thinking and teamwork skills.Conclusion The hybrid model of the flipped classroom based on SPOC concept combined with case and team based learning is a good option for obstetrics and gynecology residency training.By combining theoretical knowledge with clinical practice and team cooperation,it can contribute to promote the internalization of theoretical knowledge and enhance clinical skills and thinking.
