Exploration of professional orientation curriculum for internal medicine first-year residents with the goal of improving the quality of standardized residency training

Abstract:Objective To evaluate a professional orientation curriculum for internal medicine first-year residents according to the"Guideline for Professional Orientation in Standardized Residency Training(2022 Edition)",helping them get familiar with staff and patient care setting and overall resident training program.Methods The resident orientation curriculum included six series of lectures and simulation focusing on training objectives,curriculum construction,teaching modules and methods,assessment method and course feedback.Post-course surveys were conducted online.Results A total of 43 internal medicine first-year residents completed the orientation curriculum which included evaluations at the end of the orientation to assess their baseline competency prior to starting clinical rotations.The satisfaction of the lectures was evaluated from five dimensions with an average score of(24.6±0.17),The residents had an average score of(94.06±3.17)in the knowledge assessment and an average score of(88.31±5.68)in the technical skills assessment.Conclusion The newly admitted residents are highly satisfied with the orientation curriculum,and the orientation program improves the confidence of the first-year residents and quality of training.
