Abstract:Objective To explore the application of narrative medicine course in extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation(ECPR)training in the Emergency Department. Methods 20 trainees in a certain ECPR Training Class were selected as the research subjects.A 40-minute narrative medicine course was added to the traditional training plan, the teaching situation in the classroom was recorded, and semi-structured interviews and online anonymous survey were conducted on every trainee after the ECPR training. Results In the narrative medicine course, students were highly interested and motivated.Surveys showed that the students gained a lot and improved their ability of narrative listening and empathy. Most of the students were willing to take the narrative medicine course again or recommend colleagues and peers to participate in such courses. Conclusions It is a beneficial attempt to introduce narrative medicine courses into ECPR team training. However, the ECPR training time is insufficient, the ECPR knowledge is extensive and in-depth,the training contents and teaching forms are very rich, including theoretical learning, practical skills, situational simulation, etc. So further research is needed in the future to optimize the training and teaching system and make ECPR training higher-quality.
