Application of flipped classroom in advanced extracorporeal life support courses of cardiovascular surgery residents

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the application effect of flipped classroom on advanced extracorporeal life support courses of cardiovascular surgery residents.Methods 134 standardized training residents rotating in the professional base from January 2019 to June 2022 were selected,of whom 71 were included in the observation group and adopted flipped classroom teaching;63 were included in the control group and adopted the traditional teaching model.Before and after teaching,theoretical and clinical skills assessments were conducted,and the effectiveness of teaching was evaluated using questionnaires.Results Before teaching,there was no statistically significant difference between the scores of the observation group and the control group.However,after teaching,the scores of the observation group(86.17±4.34)were higher than those of the control group(82.73±4.11),and this differences were found to be statistically significant(P<0.05).The operational skill assessment scores between the two groups had no significant differences before teaching.After teaching,the operational skill assessment scores of resident physicians in both groups were improved,and the scores were higher in observation group compared with control group[(86.17±4.34)vs(82.73±4.11),P<0.05].The satisfaction of residents in the observation group with improved subjective initiative,increased operational opportunities and improved clinical operational skills was higher than that of the control group.The guiding physician was satisfied with both the observation group and the control group of resident physicians.Conclusions Applying the flipped classroom teaching mode can enable regulated residents to obtain excellent theoretical and operational skills assessment scores in the advanced extracorporeal life support courses of cardiovascular surgery.Participating physicians have a high degree of satisfaction with this teaching mode,which is suitable for the study of advanced extracorporeal life support courses for cardiovascular surgery practitioners.
