Teaching practice of competence-oriented case-based discussion in clinicopathological department

Abstract:Objective This study aimed to explore case-based discussion of the standardized residency training in clinicopathological department for culturing the competence-oriented pathologists who could independently sign pathological diagnosis reports.Methods The teaching practices of case-based discussion from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center were described and 70 residents who participated in the standardized training from July 2015 to December 2021 were selected.The traditional teaching mode was adopted in the control group,and the case-based discussion was added in the observation group.Results The improvement of clinicopathological post competency of the residents was evaluated by questionnaire.Compared with the control group,the observation group showed significantly improved clinicopathological post competency,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The case-based discussion can improve residents'thinking ability by changing the learning pattern from passive to active and enhance the ability to issue pathology reports independently finally.The case-based discussion is an effective way for residents with competence-oriented standardized training.
