Abstract:Objective: To explore the clinical and pathological characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus combined with genital herpes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data and cytological features of a patient diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus combined with genital herpes at Chengdu Second People's Hospital, combined with a review of literature on the clinical and pathological characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus combined with genital herpes. Results: The patient was a 23-year-old female with a history of systemic lupus erythematosus. She presented with vulvitis. Laboratory tests showed negative results for HSV-1-IgG, HSV-1-IgM, HSV-2-IgG, and HSV-2-IgM, as well as HSV-2 DNA. Cervical liquid-based cytology revealed multinucleated squamous epithelial cells with abundant cytoplasm, transparent, and nuclei that were crowded, interlaced, and had a 'glassy' appearance. Conclusion: Cases of systemic lupus erythematosus combined with genital herpes have typical clinical manifestations, specific and diverse cytological changes. Although the etiological examination was negative, genital herpes can still be diagnosed.
