Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features, immunophenotype, etiology and prognosis of external genital basal cell carcinoma. Methods The clinicopathological data of 13 cases of genital basal cell carcinoma were collected and the relevant literatures were reviewed. Results The average age of the patients in this group was 67 years, and the sites included vulva(6 cases),scrotum(6 cases)and penis(1 case).Preoperative diagnosis was unclear in 9 cases and wrong in 3 cases.Histopathological subtypes were nodular in 11 cases and nodular mixed with other subtypes in 2 cases.Immunohistochemical staining for P16,CK7,CD10,BCL2,AR,GATA3,P53,CD34,TRPS1 was positive in 12,9,11,8,9,13,13,1,and 0 cases.respectively.The expression pattern of P16 was patchy. The peripheral cells were more positive than the central cells for CD 10.BCL2 and AR showed focally weak positivity.GATA3 was weakly to moderately positive.P53 was wild-type expression, and the proliferation index of Ki-67 was about 5%~70%.Conclusion Basal cell carcinoma of external genital area is rare and difficult to diagnose before clinical operation in some cases. The pathological type is mainly nodular type. Some immunophenotypes are different from those of sun-exposed basal cell carcinoma.
