Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of different softening methods on the nail plate in subungual melanoma. Methods Fifteen cases of subungual melanoma specimens were collected, and each specimen was treated with glycerin, picric acid, and phenol respectively. Results The softening effect of glycerin was unsatisfactory, while both picric acid and phenol showed good softening effects. However, after treatment with picric acid, the background color within the stratum corneum was difficult to remove, leading to a heavy background in immunohistochemical staining. Conclusion Phenol showed better softening effects, with a clear background in immunohistochemical staining, providing favorable support for subsequent diagnostic work.
