Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features of intrathyroid thymic carcinoma(ITTC).Methods The clinical data, histological characteristics and immunohistochemical characteristics of 3 cases of ITTC patients were analyzed with review of related documents. Results Our series included 3 patients,1 man and 2 women, with age range between 38 and 45 years, and the maximum diameter of the tumor was 1.7 to 2.4 cm.Similar to the lobular structure of the thymus, the tumor cells grew in the same pattern;the cytoplasm was eosinophilic, the nucleus was large with an empty bubble, and mitotic figures were visible.Immunohistochemistry showed that tumor cells were diffuse positive for CD117,CD5,P63,P40,and CK5/6,and the Ki-67 proliferation index was about 10%to 30%.The EBER in situ hybridization test were negative, and there were no BRAF V600E mutations in the three cases. After 10 to 34 months of follow-up,no recurrence or metastasis was found. Conclusion ITTC is a rare thyroid malignant tumor with unique histological characteristics and immune phenotypes.CD5 and CD117 can be used as key markers for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of ITTC.ITTC does not always show an inert process, and its prognosis is various. Therefore,it is recommended to take an individualized treatment plan and follow up closely.
