Abstract:Objective To explore the key points of improved large wax block in the histopathological preparation of digestive tract tumors. Methods A total of 10 cases were collected from the operating room for radical resection specimens and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) specimens from the endoscopy center of the People's Hospital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, including 4 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and 6 cases of gastric ESD. The cases were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, each consisting of 2 cases of esophageal radical resection specimens and 3 cases of gastric ESD specimens. The experimental group used an improved dehydration box and embedding tray to prepare improved large wax blocks followed by routine sectioning, while the control group used the traditional method. Results A total of 157 wax blocks were prepared, including 27 improved wax blocks and 130 conventional wax blocks. In the evaluation of section quality, the excellent rate of improved wax blocks was 96.3%, and that of conventional wax blocks was 89.2%. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion There was no difference in section quality between improved wax blocks and conventional wax blocks. However, the number of wax blocks taken in the experimental group was significantly less than that in the control group, and the integrity and continuity of the tumor under the microscope were stronger, making observation more intuitive and time-saving.
