Abstract:Metastatic yolk sac tumor (YST) in ascites is rarely diagnosed. Accurate diagnosis of YST is crucial for clinical treatment and prognosis evaluation. This report describes and discusses the morphological features of this tumor in ascitic fluid cytology and its differential diagnosis from other tumors. A 43-year-old female was admitted to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Peking Union Medical College Cancer Hospital in April 2024 due to ascites. Initially diagnosed as adenocarcinoma by cytomorphological analysis, she was later confirmed to have a yolk sac tumor through immunocytochemical assistance. YST can be diagnosed by understanding the cytological morphological characteristics and combining them with immunocytochemical results.
