Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of fatty acid binding protein 3(FABP3)in clear cell renal cell carcinoma(ccRCC)and its correlation with clinical pathological characteristics. Methods Using bioinformatics and immunohistochemistry methods to analyze the expression levels of FABP3 in ccRCC and its relationship with clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis of ccRCC.Results The TIMER database analysis showed that the expression of FABP3 mRNA in various cancer tissues significantly differed from that in adjacent non-cancerous tissues(P<0.01);the TCGA database results indicated that the expression of FABP3 mRNA in ccRCC tissues was significantly downregulated(P<0.001);a total of 61 eligible patients were included, consisting of 44 males and 17 females, among whom 48 patients were aged>50 years and 13 were aged≤50 years,34 patients with a maximum tumor diameter of≤4 cm,and 27 patients with a diameter greater than 4 cm,46 patients with ISUP/WHO grade Ⅰ or Ⅱ,and 15 patients with grade Ⅲ or Ⅳ,51 patients with T stage T1 or T2,and 10 patients with T stage T3 or T4,9 patients with cancerous thrombi in blood vessels, and 52 patients without thrombi,17 patients with renal capsule invasion, and 44 patients without invasion;immunohistochemistry results showed that FABP3 protein expression was closely related to T stage(P=0.018)and the presence of cancerous thrombi in blood vessels(P=0.005);the TISCH2 database results indicated that FABP3 expression significantly affected the prognosis of patients with various tumors;the TCGA database survival analysis showed that ccRCC patients with low FABP3 protein expression had significantly shorter survival times than those with high expression;COX regression analysis revealed that low FABP3 protein expression and distant metastasis were independent prognostic factors for poor outcomes in ccRCC patients. Conclusion The abnormal expression of FABP3 in ccRCC tissue is associated with poor prognosis in patients and may serve as a potential indicator for the treatment of ccRCC and for predicting patient prognosis.
