Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical and pathological characteristics, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis of placental teratoma. Methods This study collected three cases of placental teratoma diagnosed in our hospital, summarized and analyzed their clinical and pathological features, and combined them with literature for analysis. Results The size, weight, and umbilical cord conditions of the placentas in the three cases were within normal ranges. Two cases were mainly cystic, with cystic cavities containing brownish fluid, grease, and hair; one case was cystic and solid, with gray-yellow fatty tissue and cartilage-like tissue on section. Microscopically, all cases showed typical teratoma morphology. Conclusion Placental teratoma is a rare, non-trophoblastic benign tumor of the placenta. Traditional histomorphology cannot differentiate it from an acardiac fetus, and can only be diagnosed after excluding monozygotic twins with acardia through genetic typing. However, it has minimal impact on the fetus and mother, with a good prognosis.
