Abstract:Cervical small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (CSCNEC) is a rare and aggressive cervical cancer. CSCNEC shares similar clinical and histological features with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), so CSCNEC is treated with chemotherapy regimens similar to those used for SCLC. The authors first applied immunohistochemical markers for neuroendocrine (NE) and SCLC molecular subtyping, including ASCL1, NEUROD1, APOU2F3, and yes-associated protein 1, to study 45 cases of CSCNEC. The combined NE score showed that 51.1% of CSCNEC cases were the high NE expression subtype, while 48.9% were the low NE expression subtype. Compared to the low NE expression subtype, the high NE expression subtype had shorter progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) (P=0.059 and 0.07).
