Abstract:Objective To explore the application effect of alginic acid gel in preparing wax blocks for thyroid fine needle aspiration small specimens, to overcome the problems of floating and dispersion of minute filamentous and flocculent specimens, in order to achieve minimal loss, complete preservation, no loss, complete sectioning, comprehensive microscopic field of view, and more tissue available for immunohistochemical detection. Methods For 50 cases of minute thyroid fine needle aspiration specimens from Wuhan Asia General Hospital, a comparison was made between directly wrapping the thyroid fine needle aspiration small specimens with filter paper and wrapping them with alginic acid gel, followed by dehydration, embedding, sectioning, HE (hematoxylin-eosin) staining, and immunohistochemical staining, and the results were observed. Results The thyroid fine needle aspiration small specimens wrapped with alginic acid gel showed more complete tissue preservation, were embedded flatter, and had more complete morphology when observed under the microscope, with more concentrated tissues, and could be used for immunohistochemical detection when necessary. Conclusion The alginic acid gel wax block is more beneficial for the diagnosis of thyroid fine needle aspiration small specimens by pathologists.
