Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features, immunophenotype, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma combined with primary Langerhans cell histiocytosis of the thyroid. Methods Two cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma with primary thyroid Langerhans cell histiocytosis were collected from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University.HE and immunohistochemical staining were performed, and the BRAF gene status of the two components was tested via Sanger sequencing, respectively. Results Classic papillary thyroid carcinoma and Langerhans cell histiocytosis components were present in both cases.Hashimoto thyroiditis was found in one case.BRAF V600E mutation was detected in the papillary thyroid carcinoma component in both cases via Sanger sequencing, but no BRAF V600E mutation was found in the Langerhans cell histiocytosis component. Conclusion Papillary thyroid carcinoma combined with primary Langerhans cell histiocytosis is rare in the thyroid, and it may be misdiagnosed.Immunohistochemistry is helpful for the diagnosis.
