Bone marrow metastatic tumour: clinicopathological features of 373 cases

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features of bone marrow metastatic tumours.Mehods A total of 373 cases of bone marrow mastatic tumours among 54425 cases of bone marrow biopsy from January 2012 to July 2017 were analyzed.Results Among the 373 cases,343 cases were adenocarcinoma,accounting for 91.96%;3 case were squamous cell carcinoma,accounting for 0.80%;19 cases were small cell carcimoma,accounting for 5.09%;2 case were hemangiosarcoma,accounting for 0.54%;1 case were gastrointestinal stomal tumour,accounting for 0.27%;3 cases were neuroblastoma,accounting for 0.80%;1 case were glioma,accounting for 0.27%;1 case were sarcoma,unclassifiable,accounting for 0.27%.Conclusion Bone marrow biopsy is very useful for the diagnosis of bone marrow metastatic tumours and assessment of stage.The highest number of bone marrow metastic tumours is seen in carcinoma of the prostate,followed by carcinoma of gastrointestinal tract and small cell carcinoma in male patients;adenocarcinoma of the breast followed by carcimomas of gastrointestinal tract in female patients.
