Clear cell meningioma : report of a case and review of literature

Abstract：Objective To study the pathological diagnosis,differential diagnosis and prognosis of clear cell meningioma (CCM) and to improve the understanding and diagnosis of CCM.Methods A case of clear cell meningioma was studied by paraffin sections,HE staining,PAS staining and immunohistochemistry and literature analyses in recent 10 years.Results A diagnosis of CCM was made according to the histopathological,immunohistochemical features and PAS staining.After total excision without adjuvant radiotherapy,we observed recurrence after 12 months.Conclusions CCM is a rare histological variant of meningioma and classified as WHO grade Ⅱ tumour.It is usually finally diagnosed by histopathological,immunohistochemical features and PAS staining.It is generally associated with a more aggressive behavior.The treatment of choice is complete excision,while adjuvant radiotherapy is reserved for subtotal excision and close follow up is necessary.
