Abstract:Objective To study the expression of von Hippel-Lindau (pVHL) in different types of ovarian carcinomas and to explore the diagnostic value of pVHL in ovarian clear cell carcinomas. Methods Immunohistochemical EnVision method was used to detect the expression in ovarian malignant epithelial carcinom. Results 20 clear cell carcinomas were almost diffusely strong expression of pVHL,and the positive rate was 90%.In 20 cases of ovarian high grade serous carcinoma,pVHL was cytoplasmic/membranous positive expression in 3 cases, the positive rate was 15%.2 of 14 cases of ovarian moderately/well differentiated endometrioid adenocarcinoma were positively expressed, and the positive rate was 14.3%.The expression of pVHL in serous carcinoma and endometrioid adenocarcinoma was significantly lower than that in ovarian clear cell carcinoma;the difference was statistical significance (P < 0.01).The sensitivity and specificity of pVHL in the diagnosis of ovarian clear cell carcinoma were about 90% and 85.2%,respectively.Conclusion pVHL may be a highly sensitive marker of ovarian clear cell carcinoma. The overexpression of pVHL may be helpful in the diagnosis of ovarian clear cell carcinomas and it has potential clinical value.
