Abstract:Objective To evaluate the frequency of the androgen expression in triple-negative breast carcinomas (TNBCs) and its association with histological type, tumor grade,proliferativeactivity,basal-like phenotype and survival time. Methods A total of 195 tumor samples from surgical patients were selected to make tissue microarray and the medical records were reviewed.Immunohistochemical expression of the AR,basal-like makers,p53,Ki-67 index expression were analyzed. The basal-like phenotype was characterized by cytokeratin 5/6and/or EGFR and/or CK14 expression. Results AR expression was identified in 52/195 (26.7%) cases. This subset of cases also exhibited a lower rate of high grade (55.8 % versus 73.2%,P =0.024),and a trend toward patients older than 50 yo (63.5% versus 45.7%,P =0.035).AR alone was not significantly associated with patient prognosis including OS and DFS.Conclusions There are certain amount of TNBC expression of and rogen receptor. It tends to present in patients older than 50 yo,and in carcinomas of lower grade and Ki-67 index.Though its expression has no effect on prognosis,it can provide TNBC a promising therapeutic target.
