Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical pathological and radiological characteristics, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and treatment of the adult cartilage mesenchymal hamartoma of the chest wall. Methods The clinical and imaging features, histological and immunohistochemical characteristics were studied in two adult cases of cartilage mesenchymal hamartoma of the chest wall and relevant literatures were reviewed. Results Two patients were 18-year-old adults including one male and one female respectively, and were referred to hospital because of an asymptomatic right chest wall masses with calcification that were pointed out accidentally by a complete medical checkup.Histologically, the mass was homogenous and composed of hyaline cartilage, bone and spindle cells..Cystic spaces suggested the diagnosis of an aneurysmal bone cyst.Spindle cells were arranged in loose pattern.Cartilage was in form of plates maturing into trabecular bone.Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for vimentin and negative for CD56,calponin,caldesmon,S-100,SMA,Desmin,CD34 and SOX-10.Two patients were performed surgical removal of the tumor as well as the rib involved. Conclusions Adult chondromesenchymal hamartoma is very rare.Combining clinical presentation with radiological and morphological features is important for diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The tumor can be curative by surgical excision.
