Gynecological carcinoma misdiagnosed as primary digestive tract cancer: a clinical and pathological analysis of 3 cases

Abstract:Objective To investigate the pathological and immunohistochemical features of the tumors which were misdiagnosed as digestive tract cancer and origined from gynecology.Methods A retrospective analysis of 3 cases of primary gynecological carcinoma was carried out in our hospital that were diagnosed as digestive tract cancer,with literature review.Results The 3 cases had no any history of gynecological tumor,the digestive problem was the first symptom.The metastatic cancer of gynaecologic organs was confirmed by immunohistochemistry.Among them,2 cases were from ovary and 1 cases was from uterus.Serous carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma were the main types,which were metastazed to sigmoid colon (1 cases) and rectum (2 cases).Conclusion When lower digestive tract tumors occurs in the middle and old aged women,especially without any clear history or effective treatment,the possibility of gynecological tumor metastasis should be excluded.Pathological diagnosis should be combined with clinical data,tumor morphology and immunohistochemical characteristics.
