Abstract:Objective To study the clinicopathologic features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma of lung. Methods The clinical, morphologic and immunophenotype findings of three cases of lung NUT carcinoma were studied, with review of literatures. Results Three patients were two men and one woman (54,19 and 62 years respectively).Thc main symptom was cough. The tumors were measured 9.0,11.0 and 7.5 cm in the largest diameter on CT images, respectively. One tissue sample was surgically removed and two were biopsy specimens. The tumor cells presented with sheets and nests with extensive necrosis.Tumors demonstrated poorly differentiated cells of small to intermediate in size, and numerous mitoses.Nuclei were stained lightly and keratinization was distinct, with focal differentiation to squamous cells.Immunostaining showed NUT,p63,p40 were extensively positive,AE1/AE3 and CK5/6 focally or extensively positive.Vim was positive in two cases;CD56 and CD34 were positive in one case. All patients were died in 2-5 months. Conclusion NUT carcinoma of lung is an aggressive malignancy, which has distinctive histopathologic features and immunophenotype.Immunohistochemistry is important in differential diagnosis.
