Breast phyllodes tumours in children and adolescent years of female: a clinicopathologic analysis of 13 cases

Abstract:Objective Discuss the differential diagnosis of phyllodes tumors from other fibroepithelial tumor and virginal hypertrophy on children and adolescents (4-20) years.Methods We reviewed the medical history and histological of 13 children and adolescents (11-20) years who underwent mammary biopsy for breast disease and had been diagnosed as phyllodes tumours after pathology consultation.Results Heterogeneity of the morphology which in cluding epithelial stromal area ratio present obrious regional difference,stromal overghuth,irregular distribution of ducts with repithelial hyperplasia and abnormal distribution was a key point of phyllod tumor which was common outcome of epithelial and stromal hyperplasia.Conclusions The differential diagnosis between phyllodes tumours,cellular fibroadenomas,virginal hypertrophy and hamartoma is nesessary in children and adolescents (4-20) years because they have different prognosis and surgical management.Being familiar with the histological characteristics of these breast diseases is important to avoiding misdiagnosis.
