Abstract:Objective To explore the preventive effect of early sequential oxygen-driven nebulization inhalation therapy on postoperative pulmonary complications in elderly patients undergoing radical surgery for lung cancer. Methods A total of 80 elderly lung cancer patients who were admitted to our hospital from January 2022 to May 2024 were enrolled in this study and randomly assigned to different groups using a random number approach. The control group received oxygen-driven nebulization inhalation therapy from the first day after surgery, while the observation group received early sequential oxygen-driven nebulization inhalation therapy(oxygen-driven nebulization inhalation therapy was given from admission, stopped on the day of surgery, and continued on the first day after surgery). The incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications and arterial blood gas indicators were compared between the two groups. Results The time to discharge the first mouthful of sputum after surgery in the observation group was significantly shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the sputum discharge volume of the observation group on the 1st,2nd,3rd,and 4th days postoperatively was significantly greater than that of the control group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the PaCO2 and PaO2 values between the two groups at 24 h and 5 d after surgery(P>0.05).On the 3rd day postoperatively, the PaO2 of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, while the PaCO2 was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Regarding the comparison of the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications and the length of hospital stay, both indicators in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of early sequential oxygen-driven nebulization inhalation therapy can help strengthen airway management in elderly patients undergoing radical surgery for lung cancer, promote postoperative sputum discharge, improve lung ventilation, and reduce the occurrence of pulmonary complications.
