Abstract:Objective To enhance the understanding of the national standard"Medical gas pipeline systems—Part 1:Pipeline systems for compressed medical gases and vacuum"GB/T 44059.1-2024(hereinafter referred to as:GB/T 44059.1)among practitioners of medical gas pipeline systems, which facilitates compliant and effective application of the standard, continuously improving the levels of research and development, design, manufacturing, installation, inspection, registration, and regulatory oversight of medical gas equipment and systems. Methods The requirements of the provisions in GB/T 44059.1 were elaborated from various aspects such as supply systems, emergency connection ports, monitoring and alarm systems, pipeline distribution systems, terminal units, testing and commissioning, and extensions and modifications,so as to analyze its purpose and significance. The standard was further understood by comparing the key differences between the provisions of GB/T 44059.1 and the withdrawn industry standard.Guidance on standard implementation was provided by introducing the background of GB/T 44059.1's development and compliance in application. Results Medical gas pipeline systems can only ensure the continuous supply of medical gases and vacuum meeting the required quality, pressure, and flow rate when they are designed, manufactured, and installed in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 44059.1.Conclusion The publication and implementation of GB/T 44059.1 will have a positive impact on the sustainable development of medical gas pipeline systems in China, providing patients with safer, more effective, stable, and intelligent medical gas equipment and systems.
