Expert consensus on clinical application of fluoride varnish for caries prevention

Abstract：As a mature local fluoride application technique for caries prevention,fluoride varnish has been widely used globally for over half a century due to its simplicity,safety,effectiveness,and acceptability.To standardize and optimize the clinical application of fluoride varnish in China and to fully leverage its caries prevention efficacy,especially for high-risk populations and children and adolescents,we organized experts from related fields to develop this expert consensus.This consensus is based on a systematic review of domestic and international research evidence and existing guidelines,while taking into account the actual situation in China.It elaborates on the caries prevention mechanism,indications and contraindications,clinical operational norms,frequency and timing,safety and adverse reaction management,application recommendations for special populations,and community promotion strategies of fluoride varnish.It aims to provide scientific,practical,and standardized guidance for dental clinicians,public health practitioners,and related management personnel.
