Abstract:Radiotherapy,as a crucial modality in clinical cancer treatment, primarily utilizes ionizing radiation to destroy tumor cells. However, its damaging effects on surrounding normal tissues often impair patients' quality of life and limit its clinical application. The recent emergence of ultra-high dose rate(>40 Gy/s)FLASH radiotherapy has demonstrated the potential to reduce normal tissue damage while maintaining tumoricidal efficacy, thereby expanding the therapeutic window of radiotherapy. To systematically elucidate the radiobiological effects and underlying principles of ultra-high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy, this review comprehensively summarizes relevant fundamental research, potential mechanisms, and clinical advances from both domestic and international studies.
