Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of deep brain stimulation(DBS)on the inhibitory control function of patients with drug addiction. Methods Using a 64-lead electroencephalography system,event-related potential monitoring was performed in a visual Go/NoGo task before and after DBS surgery. The amplitude and latency of the N2 and P3 components were analyzed. Results In the self-controlled cohort of eight patients, the inhibitory effect showed a significant difference in N2 latency at the PZ electrode(P<0.05).Comparison of P3 amplitude between pre-operative and post-operative groups revealed a significant difference at the FZ electrode(P<0.05).Moreover,the inhibitory effect differed significantly at the FZ,FCZ,and CZ electrodes in both pre-operative and post-operative groups(P<0.05).Regarding P3 latency,a significant difference in NoGo-P3 latency was observed at the PZ electrode between patients with and without relapse(P<0.05).In the intergroup comparison of 15 patients, the P3 amplitude induced by NoGo stimulation in the anterior brain regions(FZ,FCZ,and CZ)was larger compared with Go stimulation(P<0.05),consistent with the role of P3 in response inhibition. The amplitude of P3d differed significantly before and after surgery(P<0.05),with post-operative NoGo-P3d amplitude being higher than pre-operative NoGo-P3d amplitude.Additionally, the P3d amplitude was larger in non-relapse patients compared to relapse patients(P<0.05).Conclusion DBS-NAc treatment can improve inhibitory control function in patients with heroin addiction, providing neurophysiological evidence for understanding cognitive changes after DBS.
