Abstract:Objective To systematically review the research progress on neuronal apoptosis mechanisms after traumatic brain injury(TBI),identify research hotspots and challenges in this field, and provide references for future research directions. Methods Based on the Web of Science Core Collection database, relevant literature on neuronal apoptosis in TBI published between 2001 and 2024 was retrieved.Bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer,CiteSpace, and R software, focusing on publication volume, country distribution, journal sources, and keywords. Results A total of 3 666 articles in the field of neuronal apoptosis in TBI were included, with an overall increasing trend in annual publications.China(1 488 articles)and the United States(1 015 articles)ranked as the top two countries in terms of publication output, collectively accounting for 68%of the total.Major research institutions included Pennsylvania State University,University of Pittsburgh, and Soochow University.Key journals publishing related research were Journal of Neurotrauma and Brain Research.Early studies focused on oxidative stress, calcium overload, and the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway mediated by Bcl-2 family proteins. After 2010,research gradually expanded to multi-mechanism interactive regulation.Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress as core mechanisms, which were also associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and cerebral ischemia. Conclusion Research on neuronal apoptosis mechanisms after TBI is shifting from the exploration of fundamental pathways to neural repair,cross-disease associations, and targeted therapies. However, the translation of basic research findings into clinical applications still faces numerous challenges, and systematic exploration of translational strategies is warranted.
