Abstract:Objective To analyze the research hotspots and development trends of rectal neuroendocrine neoplasms(r-NENs)through bibliometric methods, providing references for subsequent research in this field. Methods Relevant literatures from the Web of Science Core Collection database from its establishment to December 31,2024 were systematically searched.CiteSpace 6.4.R1 software was used for analysis on publishing countries,co-cited journals, keyword co-occurrence,clustering,burst,and strategic coordinate mapping to explore research hotspots and trends. Results A total of 704 articles were included.China and the United States ranked first in the number of publications(164 articles each, accounting for 23.30%),and South Korea ranked third with 100 articles. The journal Cancer had the highest number of co-citations(416 times).Peking Union Medical College Hospital was the most productive institution(27 articles),and Hong Seung-Mo was the most prolific author(12 articles).High-frequency keywords included neuroendocrine tumor, carcinoid tumor, management, etc.Clustering analysis showed that research hotspots focused on endoscopic resection, transanal endoscopic microsurgery, etc. In the past five years, the research focus has tended to be on clinical diagnosis and treatment specifications, epidemiological characteristics, and case analysis. The strategic coordinate map divided research themes into four quadrants, clarifying the development status of different fields. Conclusion There are still unresolved needs in the field of r-NENs,such as diagnostic markers and optimization of endoscopic techniques.Future research should focus on exploring more reliable diagnostic and prognostic markers, comparing the efficacy of modified endoscopic techniques, and combining auxiliary technologies to improve management strategies.
